ACCELERATED READER IS HERE!!

Dear Parents,

Accelerated Reader, aka“AR” is now available online!! Most of our students have already visited the AR website and are ready to start taking tests. AR is a comprehension based program where students read a book on their level and take a test over the book when they have finished reading it. All books are leveled based on the grade and age for which the books are intended.

In the near future, your child will take an assessment (STAR test) on the computer that will determine over what level of books your child should be reading and taking tests.  When a student takes the test over a book and receives an 80% or better they receive points for the test.  The number of points available is based on the difficulty of the book. Each grade or classroom will have a certain number of points that will be due for each child.  Please watch the folders for that information from your child’s teacher.

You can access your child’s reports by going to the DSA Elementary website and clicking on the Accelerated Reader logo on the right-hand side of the main page. Your child should know their login id and password. If they do not remember that information, please send a note to your child’s teacher.
Please encourage your child to read their books completely before attempting to take a test so they perform their best on the test itself. Also, movies are usually not the same as the novels, so watching a movie will not guarantee success on the test.
